Project Description:

History is Made with Emmy Award Winning Video Masher

The N (now known as TeenNick) enlisted Funny Garbage to produce an online video-editing application, designed to be easily updated and re-skinned for multiple advertising campaigns. Launched in March 2006, The N Video Mixer enables users to produce minute-long videos by mixing show clips with customized music, graphics and animated transitions. Once completed, the amateur directors are encouraged to send their creations to friends, transforming the Mixer from an engaging experience for users into a powerful viral marketing tool for advertising partners.

Pali Research hailed the Video Mixer as "one of the most innovative digital media products that a major media company has launched on the Internet." Such praise was validated as the Video Mixer brought home the 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Non-Synchronous Enhancement of Original Television Content

Version 2.0, The N Video Masher, launched in November 2006 and expands the functionality of its predecessor: updating the interface, introducing a gallery view of current mash-ups and providing a copy-and-paste HTML block for users to embed their mash-ups into other web environments. The Masher also features integrated, sponsor-ready user challenges to create mash-ups on specific themes; upon completing a challenge, a pre-roll advertisement precedes the mash-up's playback. Tying the application together, Funny Garbage built a PHP/smarty content management system, allowing The N’s editorial staff to easily administer assets and challenges.
