46 years ago today, Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek was first aired on television. Star Trek has given their fans an incredible legacy of stories and characters. As you may already know, Google will occasionally honor birthdays of notable artists and scientists and milestones in history. For Google to highlight a pop culture icon like Star Trek on the most trafficked page of the Internet is truly an honor and we at Funny Garbage are honored to have fully designed and developed the official site for Star Trek: StarTrek.com.

Starting out as only minor tweaks to the logo, Google Doodles have grown in the scope of notoriety and complexity. Google's first interactive Doodle in May of 2010 was a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Namco's Pacman. It was so successful and fun that it was blamed for $120 Million in lost economic productivity. Since then, Google Doodles have become a phenomenon with new ones being released on a regular basis. They even have a Doodle department dedicated to creating them. Imagine that being your job? 

Among the many cool aspects of Google Doodles are the attention to detail and interactive elements. For example, check out the Doodle for Alexander Calder, artist and inventor of the mobile. If you are viewing from a laptop, phone or iPad, you can see that the Doodle coded in HTML5 is linked to your device's accelerometer. Pretty slick! We are really happy that Google gave Star Trek Doodle the interactive treatment. It's got a few Easter Eggs in it!
