OUT NOW! Interactive Design: An Introduction to the Theory and Application of User-centered Design

I am very excited to announce the publication of a textbook I co-wrote with UX strategist Jason Nunes, Interactive Design: An Introduction to the Theory and Application of User-Centered Design.
In our research, we found that there are a lot of great UX books out there but most are written from the perspective of a user experience pro. So we used a different approach. We merged the perspectives of a UX practitioner with a creative director's, resulting in a unique blend of inspirational and tactical information. We think it will be especially helpful for student designers, or anybody interested in breaking into the interactive field.
The topic of interactive design is massive, so when Jason and I began the project, we needed a way to identify the concepts we should include and--this was much more difficult--determine which to leave out. Our approach was this: We're sitting down for coffee with a young designer. What do we want him or her to learn?
After some a little brainstorming--and a lot of thumb wrestling--we developed the outline. Each chapter represents a core concept, such as: the importance of collaboration, guiding and motivating your users, or the fundamentals of user research and testing. In order to effectively represent this plethora of ideas, we included the voices of other leaders in the interactive field. The book is peppered with visually stunning case studies as well as writings and quotes from highly respected entrepreneurs, design visionaries, and professional UX designers and developers. It's a pretty meaty text, if we do say so ourselves.
If this book sounds like something up your alley, you can buy it here! And if you are a teacher and are interested in using the book in your class, please contact me at andrew@funnygarbage.com. I can connect you with the right people at Rockport Press, our publisher.
